Types and forms of sculpture

Sculpture is generally divided into two forms: sculpture and relief.

1. Sculpture

The so-called round sculpture refers to the three-dimensional sculpture that can be appreciated in many directions and angles. There are also various techniques and forms, including realistic and decorative ones, concrete and abstract ones, indoor and outdoor ones, framed and large-scale city sculptures, colored and non colored ones; the contents and themes of sculptures are also rich and colorful, which can be figures, animals, and even still life; the materials are more colorful, including stone, wood, metal, clay sculpture and textile Things, paper, plants, rubber, etc.

As one of the modeling techniques of sculpture, the round sculpture has a wide range of applications, and it is also the most common form of sculpture for ordinary people. This book will focus on the sculpture techniques of human figure sculpture.

2. Relief

The so-called relief is the product of the combination of sculpture and painting. It uses compression method to deal with objects, and displays three-dimensional space by perspective and other factors, and only for one or two sides to watch. Relief is usually attached to another plane, so it is used more in architecture, and can be seen on utensils and utensils. Because of its compression characteristics, it takes up less space, so it is suitable for decoration of various environments. In recent years, it plays a more and more important role in city beautification. Relief is as rich and colorful as round sculpture in content, form and material.

It mainly has the shrine type, the high relief, the shallow relief, the line carving, the hollow out type and so on several forms.

The ancient grotto sculpture in China can be summed up as shrine sculpture. According to the different modeling techniques, it can be divided into realism, decoration and abstraction;

High relief refers to a form of small compression, big undulation, close to round sculpture or even semicircle carving. This kind of relief has a strong contrast between light and shade, and its visual effect is outstanding;

It not only keeps a kind of architectural planarity, but also has a certain sense of volume and undulation;

Line engraving is a combination of painting and sculpture. It is produced by light and shadow. It uses light instead of writing. It even has some subtle ups and downs, giving people a subtle feeling;

Hollow carving is to remove the base plate of the so-called relief, so as to produce a variety of negative space, and make the contour line of negative space and positive space have a mutual conversion rhythm. This technique used to be used in the furniture of doors and windows, some of which can be seen on both sides.
